No other holiday resonates with lovers
than hearts on Valentine Day. At first, the NYTIMES
lonely hearts page suggested ways to cope: have a dinner
out or dine in with a friend or volunteer somewhere
or help someone. Finding the way was key. Prepare
yourself for the sadness and the grief. In my experience,
there isn’t any way that works each year. Someone is
missing. So on the second page of advice to the lovelorn
focused on others: bringing joy to others. Let those who
live and care for one another know how much you appreciate
their love for one another and the joy it brings you. So I tried this,
without fanfare. It was the best advice I gave myself.
I recall my poem of 2019. Be kind to those in diverse places.
